The quickest way to sort out your will before you hit the road

Many people put off writing their will because they imagine it will be an onerous process. However, with South Africa’s appalling festive season road death statistics and more people likely to be on the road to avoid the COVID-19 risks associated with air travel, now is definitely a time when it’s better to be prepared. Here are our three top tips for preparing your will to give you and your loved ones peace of mind before you get on the road.

  1. Draft your will quickly, conveniently, and from anywhere SmartWill has created a platform that makes it simple and quick to create your will online without having to get up from your computer. Once that’s done, all you need to do is print off two copies and sign them.

  2. Keep your will safe A product like SmartCheck, which ensures your will is never lost and proactively contacts all the relevant parties about the existence of your will if you pass away, is the ideal way to store your will and make sure that it can be found and your wishes carried out. You can also give a signed copy to a friend or extended family member so they have it on hand should something happen to you.

  3. Don’t forget your living will A living will is a document you sign that confirms you don’t want any medical treatment that will keep you alive artificially when there is no reasonable prospect for your recovery. This can be a useful indication of your wishes for your family if you are in an accident. Sign a copy, let the relevant people know that it exists, and keep it with your will.

Preparedness can give you the extra peace of mind you need as you head out to take a well deserved break.

What some of our customers think.

"The process of updating my will was so overwhelming that I had snoozed the reminder on my to-do list since my my second child was born... and he is almost three. Then I found SmartWill.
The website is so intuitive and extremely simple. I found myself wondering whether it was too simplistic! The website guides you through an easy, step-by-step process that you can complete in your own time, in the comfort of your home. It takes an overwhelming task, and breaks it down into easy-to-answer questions. The cost is nominal, the quality is extraordinary. You don’t need to make an appointment with a lawyer, yet your will is reviewed by a lawyer. The whole process was so streamlined, I really can’t fault it. I strongly recommend that you just take the first step. The rest is easy." - Tanya Hanekom
"A will is always the lowest item on most people's daily priority list, but SmartWill helps make it as easy and seamless as possible. With the ability to dip in and out of the website when you have time to complete the details. With constant but not overbearing email reminders, and good advice from real people when you need it, the overall adds up to an excellent service for the price. Thanks SmartWill I can sleep a little easier now!" - Charles Edwards
